Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Teeth can darken and become stained despite good oral-health practices. Discoloration can result from consuming food and beverages such as coffee or tea. Other factors that may contribute to change in tooth color include:

  • Genetics
  • Smoking
  • Certain medications

Fortunately, eliminating dental stains is affordable and easy. At our Victoria dental office, Dr. Pite offers a couple of different approaches to tooth whitening that allow you to brighten your smile in just one visit, or whiten your smile in the comfort of your own home.

Teeth whitening is often performed as part of a smile makeover. Many patients choose to undergo teeth whitening before receiving porcelain veneers or dental crowns in order to achieve a more dramatic overall enhancement.

Pola™ Take-Home Whitening Kits

Before and after teeth whitening in Victoria BC
This process, which can be done anywhere and anytime, involves wearing a custom-made bleaching tray (looks like a thin, transparent night guard) filled with a mild bleaching agent. You must wear the gel-filled tray one-half to two hours per day for about two to four weeks.

The advantages of home whitening include performing the treatment when it is convenient for you and lower cost. The disadvantage to home bleaching is that the success of the treatment is dependent on your commitment to wearing the whitening tray routinely for the period prescribed.
